However, they’ve different approaches.

The Q10 S5+ is more focused on value. It has 10,000Pa suction and delivers impressive results in independent tests. It has strong carpet cleaning, good hair pickup, an effective anti-tangle system and a surprisingly efficient LiDAR navigation system. Its RockDock Plus station automatically empties the robot’s dust bin, but it doesn’t wash or dry the mop. The owner remains responsible for most of the wet-cleaning maintenance.

The Qrevo S Pro is a more premium option. It has higher rated suction, at 18,500Pa, and a more advanced dock. The multifunction station automatically empties the robot, refills its water and washes the rotating mop pads with hot water before drying them with warm air. That changes the ownership experience substantially. Instead of simply owning a robot that vacuums and mops, you get a system designed to take care of much of the unpleasant maintenance itself.

If you care most about getting a lot of vacuuming performance for your money, the Q10 S5+ is extremely compelling. If what you really want is to stop thinking about floor cleaning as much as possible, the Qrevo S Pro is the more sophisticated machine.

Navigation Intelligence and Mapping

Owning a robot vacuum can make navigation seem almost magical at first. You press a button, the machine leaves its dock, moves around the room, turns at precisely the right point and gradually builds a map of your home. But as time passes, a more practical question emerges: does it really know where it’s going?

The Roborock Qrevo S Pro and Q10 S5+ generally know where they’re going. Both use LiDAR-based navigation, and both are considerably more sophisticated than the random-pattern robot vacuums that were common a few years ago. They can map rooms, identify boundaries, plan systematic routes and return to the dock without spending half the cleaning cycle wandering around looking for it.

Good navigation and obstacle avoidance aren’t the same thing. Both are good at navigating. The Qrevo S Pro is better at dealing with the unpredictable objects that appear in a real home. The Q10 S5+ can be impressively methodical when the floor is reasonably clear, but it is less forgiving when the environment becomes cluttered.

That difference becomes clearer once you look at how these robots actually move around a home.

LiDAR provides a strong foundation for both robots

The Q10 S5+ and Qrevo S Pro both use LiDAR to understand their surroundings. A sensor mounted toward the top of the robot continuously measures the environment around it, allowing the machine to establish the location of walls, furniture and other significant obstacles.

This makes both robots feel more deliberate than cheap autonomous cleaners.

A robot using a basic random navigation system might hit a wall, turn, move in another direction and eventually cover most of the floor by chance. It can technically clean the room, but it doesn’t really understand the room.

The Roborock approach is different.

The robot builds a representation of the space and uses that information to decide where it should go next. It recognizes when it hits a wall. It can recognize that a particular area has already been cleaned. It can work out that a doorway connects one section of the floor to another. Most, it can return to the areas it hasn’t yet covered instead of simply hoping to encounter them.

This is immediately noticeable on the first cleaning run.

You don’t need to steer either robot around the house. Once it has enough information to establish its map, it can begin creating a usable representation of the rooms. You can refine the map using the app.

For a robot vacuum, that’s a much more important capability than it might sound.

A good map is the foundation for almost everything.

Mapping the home

The initial mapping process is generally quick, although the exact experience depends on the size and layout of the home.

It moves around, scans the environment, and builds a map. Once the map is established, the software can divide the floor plan into rooms.

This is where Roborock’s software becomes particularly useful.

You don’t have to tell the Q10 S5+ or Qrevo S Pro to clean the entire house every time. You can select specific rooms or areas. If the kitchen needs cleaning after cooking, but not the bedrooms, you can send the robot to the kitchen.

That sounds like a minor convenience until you use it regularly.

Imagine a robot vacuum that runs everywhere every time. It would eventually clean the floors, but it would waste battery and time repeatedly cleaning rooms that don’t need attention.

Room-based navigation makes the robot more practical.

You can set routines like daily living room and hallway vacuuming, post-dinner kitchen cleaning, or weekly whole-home cycles.

Both can do room-specific cleaning.

The Qrevo S Pro doesn’t reinvent mapping compared to the Q10 S5+. It combines mapping intelligence with advanced obstacle handling and a more thorough cleaning system.

The Q10 S5+ excels at route planning

The Q10 S5+ deserves more credit for navigation than its position in Roborock’s range might suggest.

Once it has mapped a room, it generally follows a logical cleaning pattern. Rather than bouncing around randomly, it works methodically across the floor.

There are two key reasons for this.

Systematic cleaning means fewer areas are missed. And efficient navigation cuts down on cleaning time.

This affects battery life directly.

A robot that spends an extra 20 minutes wandering around the house isn’t just wasting time. It’s using battery that could have been spent actually vacuuming.

In a relatively tidy space, the Q10 S5+ is quite impressive. It knows its way around. And generally knows where to go.

This is one of the reasons I wouldn’t describe the Q10 S5+ as a “basic” robot vacuum.

That navigation system is sophisticated enough that you can mostly forget about directing it once the map is set.

The Qrevo S Pro goes further with situational awareness

The Qrevo S Pro adds another layer to this process through its obstacle-avoidance system.

This matters because a map represents the relatively permanent features of a home.

Walls stay put.

Kitchen cabinets don’t budge.

The sofa usually doesn’t move.

But a phone charging cable might be on the floor one day and gone the next.

A child’s toy could appear in the middle of the hallway.

Shoes might be left by the bed.

A pet toy might be under a table.

Temporary objects like these make robot vacuum navigation tricky.

The Qrevo S Pro is better at identifying and navigating around these objects than the Q10 S5+.

It doesn’t have that level of understanding mean it understands like a human. It doesn’t.

Once those things are out of the way, the Q10 S5+ can navigate very effectively.

This raises an interesting question about whether obstacle avoidance should actually matter to everyone.

For someone living in a tidy home with relatively open floors, perhaps not.

If the floor is normally clear, the Q10 S5+’s excellent mapping and systematic navigation may be more important than its weaker ability to identify small objects.

But for a busy family home, it’s different.

You don’t necessarily want to perform a five-minute floor inspection every time you want the robot to clean.

That’s where the Qrevo S Pro has an edge.

Furniture remains a challenge

Furniture is an interesting test because large, permanent objects are relatively easy for LiDAR-based robots to understand.

The robot sees a dining table for what it is.

It’s visible to the robot.

Its location gets recorded on the map. And the navigation system can plan around it.

However, tables create complicated environments with their legs.

A table might have four legs.

A dining chair might have four more.

Several chairs could create a small forest of obstacles.

The robot must navigate between them, figuring out which spaces are accessible. And avoiding traps.

This is where the Q10 S5+ can occasionally become frustrating.

It can understand the general structure of a room but still struggle with certain furniture arrangements. Instead of smoothly navigating around a chair leg, it may repeatedly attempt slightly different approaches.

The Qrevo S Pro generally handles these situations better, although it isn’t immune.

That’s an important caveat.

No robot vacuum should be considered incapable of getting stuck.

Even expensive machines can encounter awkward combinations of furniture, cables, and narrow gaps that defeat their navigation system.

Perfection isn’t the goal.

The goal is to need fewer interventions.

The Qrevo S Pro does that better.

Low furniture and LiDAR sensors

The raised LiDAR module is great for mapping but has a physical limitation.

That robot needs to be low enough to fit under furniture while carrying a sensor module on top.

This means some beds, sofas, and cabinets will be inaccessible if clearance is too low.

Neither model is unique in this regard. It’s a consequence of using a raised navigation sensor.

Before buying either robot, measuring the clearance underneath the furniture you most want cleaned is worthwhile.

A robot that can navigate perfectly but physically can’t fit under the bed isn’t going to provide much benefit there.

Both models can reach many common spaces, but checking actual clearance in your home is still necessary.

Mapping multiple floors

Another useful capability is storing maps for multiple floors.

This matters more in houses than apartments.

With upstairs bedrooms and downstairs living areas, you don’t want the robot to rebuild the entire map every time you move it.

Roborock’s mapping system supports multiple maps, so the robot retains layouts for different levels.

There’s still a practical limitation.

It won’t climb stairs.

You’ve to physically move it and, depending on the cleaning setup, potentially move the dock or otherwise accommodate the different floor.

Once the robot is on the correct level, an existing map makes the process easier.

This is another area where a robot vacuum is more sophisticated than a basic autonomous cleaner.

Room recognition is useful, though not perfect

Automatic room segmentation is generally good, but homes often aren’t designed in neat geometric blocks.

Open-plan kitchens and living rooms are interesting.

To a human, the space might be one large room with two functional areas.

To a robot, there may be little physical separation between them.

The app lets you adjust room boundaries, combining or dividing areas, which is useful since the initial map doesn’t need to be perfect.

This is one of Roborock’s best software aspects.

The robot generates the map, which is the difficult work.

Then you can make it more useful.

This combination of automation and manual control is preferable.

You don’t have to draw your entire house, but you can correct the system when it’s wrong.

No-go zones and virtual barriers

The ability to establish virtual boundaries is another major advantage.

There are always areas in a home where you don’t want a robot vacuum to go.

Maybe there’s a corner with delicate cables.

Maybe a pet’s food and water bowls are in an area.

Maybe a particular rug doesn’t work well with the mop.

Maybe there’s a room you don’t want cleaned.

You can create virtual restrictions through the app instead of blocking the robot.

This feature initially feels unnecessary, but eventually becomes indispensable.

Once you’ve found the awkward corner where the robot keeps getting into trouble, it’s easier to tell it to avoid that spot than to keep rescuing it.

Both models offer map-based control.

Navigation and mopping are linked

Mopping makes navigation even more crucial.

A robot vacuum with a dry mop is something else.

But a robot with a wet mop is different.

It needs to know where hard floors stop and carpet starts.

The Qrevo S Pro is particularly well suited to this because its mop pads can lift when carpet is detected.

This lets the robot vacuum and mop in one routine without dragging wet pads on carpet.

The Q10 S5+ has a similar system, giving it a basic advantage too.

Navigation, floor recognition, and design all need to work together here.

If any one of them fails, the result can be frustrating.

Navigation and obstacle avoidance

This is probably the most important point to take away from the comparison.

The Q10 S5+ navigates well.

The Qrevo S Pro navigates better in messy spaces.

Those statements sound similar, but they’re not.

If you put both robots in a clear room with the furniture already mapped, the difference can be surprisingly small.

In a real home after a normal day, the Qrevo S Pro pulls ahead.

The Q10 S5+ can map the room beautifully but may still struggle with a cable that wasn’t there during mapping.

The Qrevo S Pro has a better chance of seeing the cable and adjusting its route.

Neither should be trusted around every small object, though.

Flat cables are troublesome for many robots since they’re hard to distinguish from the floor. Socks, thin clothing and very small toys can also cause problems.

And there’s one object that I would never leave entirely to the robot’s intelligence: pet waste.

No obstacle-avoidance system should be considered a guarantee that a robot will recognize and avoid every unpleasant mess on the floor.

Vacuuming performance is where the Roborock Qrevo S Pro and Q10 S5+ become much more interesting than their positions in the product range might suggest. On paper, it seems the Qrevo S Pro should win. The Qrevo S Pro is rated at up to 18,500Pa. And the Q10 S5+ at 10,000Pa. Put those numbers next to each other and it would be tempting that the Qrevo S Pro is almost twice as powerful. But real-world cleaning is more complex.

Suction power is only one part of a robot vacuum’s performance. Other factors like brush design, airflow, and floor contact also matter. A robot can have high suction but still perform poorly if its brush doesn’t work well or it moves too fast.

Edge and Corner Cleaning

Edge and corner cleaning is an area where robot vacuums are still limited physically. The Roborock Qrevo S Pro and Q10 S5+ both have round bodies, which makes them good at navigating open areas but prevents them from reaching square corners perfectly. Side brushes help pull debris away from walls and toward the main brush, but neither robot can completely eliminate the narrow strip that can remain along edges.
